“You have to stop her!” Compassionate Disaster Films has revealed their official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Cuckoo Clock, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Lisa Jay. This is debuting in limited theaters this October – just in time for the horror season to kick off. A young woman named Penny falls in love with the home health care nurse sent to care for her elderly Grandmother with dementia. When the nurse mysteriously disappears, Grandma’s cuckoo clock speaks to her with a warning that Grandma might be responsible. “The granddaughter, Penny, starts on seemingly solid ground… The eventual disappearance of the nurse, Megan, is the catalyst for her mental disintegration. But maybe not. Perhaps there’s something deeper – an earlier event that triggered her. Hints of whatever the problem may be emerge in a hallucinatory manner.” Starring Hana Hahn, MaKenna DeCaro, and Laura Drake. The Cuckoo Clock film conveys a dream logic and symbolism to put the viewer in Penny’s mind, her point of view. Very creepy clock horror – even a giant freaky cuckoo bird makes an appearance in the trailer. A movie for horror fans to watch out for.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Lisa Jay’s horror film The Cuckoo Clock, direct from YouTube:

The Cuckoo Clock is a love story between Penny, the granddaughter of a bedridden, old woman, who falls in love with her live-in nurse, Megan. It then becomes a supernatural thriller when Megan suddenly goes missing, and Penny’s only source of information comes from a talking cuckoo clock. With Adele recovering from surgery & struggling with dementia, their romance does not rest on a solid foundation. The stress of responsibility on both sides creates codependent tension and arguments in the household. Despite this, the girls work together to assist Adele in organizing all of her old photos & videos. But with Adele taking a plethora of prescription meds, her understanding of the past and present blurs, and her temper shortens with the couple’s daily quarrels. Then Megan is gone with no warning. Hanging on by a thread, missing her love and searching for answers, the only communication she receives is through her grandmother’s talking cuckoo clock. “Grandma can’t be trusted,” it says, causing Penny to spiral into distrust & paranoia.
The Cuckoo Clock is written and directed by up-and-coming indie filmmaker Lisa Jay, making her feature directorial debut after many other short films previously. Produced by Erich Cannon & Kim Hornsby. Made by Compassionate Disaster Films and Paisley Hat Productions. The film is premiering soon at the 2026 Dead Prairies Horror Movie Festival in Canada. Lisa Jay’s The Cuckoo Clock horror film will release in select US theaters starting on October 2nd, 2026 this fall. For more info visit the film’s official site. Look scary?
