“When we were young, we used to go to double features! Now, these drug-addled Gen-Zers cant even sit through one whole film.” Mubi has revealed the trailer for a “chaotic, darkly comedic” film titled Junk, with a series of stories set in Los Angeles marking the feature directorial debut of music video filmmaker Jack Begert. After nearly three years of waiting in limbo, Mubi is finally releasing it. Junk initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival under the title Little Death, getting intensely negative reviews calling it one of worst films at the fest that year. They’re trying to cover all that up with a title change and hope that releasing it as Junk will get more people to watch it. Doubt it. Nighttime in LA: a pill-addled screenwriter struggles with writer’s block; across town, two young drifters with a lost dog search for their stolen car. A slacker odyssey through LA after dark. The life of a bitter & misogynistic screenwriter intersects with the story of two addicts on an odyssey trying to find a stolen backpack. Starring David Schwimmer, Dominic Fike, Talia Ryder, Jena Malone, and Gaby Hoffmann. A wacky trailer for a very wacky film – have fun.
Here’s the final official trailer (+ poster) for Jack Begert’s film Junk, direct from Mubi’s YouTube:

A middle-aged filmmaker on the verge of a breakthrough. Two kids in search of a lost backpack. A small dog a long way from home. It’s nighttime in Los Angeles: a pill-addled screenwriter struggles with writer’s block; across town, two young drifters with a lost dog search for their stolen car. Scrappy, gritty and darkly funny, Junk is a slacker odyssey about two generations caught somewhere between apathy, anxiety and the search for meaning. Junk, formerly known as Little Death, is directed by filmmaker Jack Begert, making his feature directorial debut after many short films & music videos before. The screenplay is written by Jack Begert and Dani Goffstein. Produced by Darren Aronofsky, Andy Cohen, Dylan Golden, Brendan Naylor, Sam Canter, Noor Alfallah. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival a few years ago. Mubi releases Begert’s Junk film streaming on Mubi starting October 23rd, 2026 this fall.
