“You’re not a little kid anymore, Olmo!” Greenwich Entertainment has unveiled an official US trailer for an indie film titled Olmo, made by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbcke. This premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival last year to mostly good reviews, and after playing at festivals over the last year, it’s finally ready for release. Hitting art house theaters starting in August in the US this summer – worth a watch. Olmo is a charming coming-of-age film about a boy and his boots and a girl. The best discovery is the young actor Aivan Uttapa starring as Olmo – he’s unforgettable! When Olmo gets invited to a party by his beautiful neighbor, he will do whatever he can to meet up with her – embarking on a night of laughs and chaos. It’s a nicely-made family story about a boy living in New Mexico. Also starring Gustavo Sánchez Parra, Andrea Suárez Paz, Diego Olmedo, Rosa Armendariz, and Melanie Frometa. The director Fernando Eimbcke also has another film from this year titled Flies that is also quite good. He is a genuine talent and any of his films are worth watching. I’ve seen both of these ones already and I recommend both.
Here’s the official US trailer (+ final poster) for Fernando Eimbcke’s film Olmo, direct from YouTube:

14-year-old Olmo and his family are struggling to make ends meet in 1979 New Mexico. Due to an illness that keeps his father Nestor confined to his bed, his mother Cecilia, his sister Ana, and even he himself must contribute to the daily caretaking responsibilities. Olmo, in the throes of selfish adolescence, would much rather hang out with his best friend Miguel and try to impress his beautiful next-door neighbor Nina than take care of his dad. And when Nina finally invites him to a party on the day that he’s been left alone with his dad, Olmo will do whatever he can to get out of his duties, embarking on a journey of mischief and chaos. In his desperate attempt to escape his home life, he will come to realize that the place of his deepest pain is also where he will find solace: with his family. Olmo is directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbcke, director of the films Duck Season, Lake Tahoe, Club Sandwich previously, and the upcoming Flies. The screenplay is written by Vanesa Garnica and Fernando Eimbcke. Produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Eréndira Núñez Larios, Michel Franco. This initially premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival last year, and it also screened at TIFF, London, and AFI Fest. Greenwich Ent. debuts Eimbcke’s Olmo film in select US theaters starting on August 7th, 2026 coming up soon. Look any good?
