Democratic Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed bashed President Donald Trump over his diplomatic and trade spat with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Sayed touched on affordability during a contentious interview on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime, putting the full blame on Trump for inflation. He then speculated that the issue was about to grow much worse over the trade war with Canada.
“Everywhere I go in Michigan, people are talking about the fact that they’ve never had to worry as much about life being as unaffordable as they say right now. Now I get it, Donald Trump likes to blame everything on his predecessor, but let’s be clear: This is Donald Trump’s economy right now, and he’s about to make everything so much worse because he’s in a vanity war with the Prime Minister of Canada,” Sayed said.
The Michigan Democrat tapped into the “nice Canadians” stereotype, joking that they were “the only people I know who apologize before they even did a thing.”
“So now they’re raising the tariff to 50%? What’s that gonna do to inflation?” he asked.

Trump announced a new 50% tariff on cars, trucks, automotive components, and steel coming from Canada starting Jan. 1, 2027, after trade talks collapsed last week.
“Canada will be treated like a State no longer!” he wrote. “On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95% of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact opposite!”
