Eerie Trailer for ‘Trees are Watching’ Horror Film Starring Eva Green​

“In a forgotten town, the curse never sleeps…” 🌳 Mij Film has revealed the first official trailer for the indie horror film titled Trees are Watching, made by Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi as his latest feature. This eerie, mysterious eco horror film stars Eva Green and will premiere at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival this fall as one of their major festival world premieres. This looks extra creepy and strange! With a haunted wooden chair. Novelist Darya returns to her hometown with her deaf daughter to work on her new book. There she is haunted by the memories of twin girls from her childhood, and the two trees planted as their memorials, the only that remain among mass deforestation. The film stars Eva Green & Murat Yildirim, along with child actors. TIFF explains: “Across surreal set pieces that ebb with heightened phantasmagoric stylization and sometimes full-blown Grand Guignol spectacle — particularly in a thrilling sequence that recalls the American Final Destination series — Ghobadi conjures a unique flavour of terror, enriched with nuanced philosophy and a deeply personal dimension.” Yep this sounds really good! Definitely one to watch.

Intro via TIFF: “Darya, a writer obsessed with the spiritual resonance of trees, returns to her hometown of Mardin with her deaf daughter and grows haunted by past memories of Spin & Nihal, twin sisters she knew as a child. Residing in their former family home — which is bordered by mass deforestation save for an ominous pair of trees planted for each sister — Darya’s unease is suddenly exacerbated by nightly visitations of a malignant entity that takes a seemingly benign form: a chair made from local timber. Soon ruminating on her checkered relationship with Spin & Nihal, the latter of whom claimed to be terrorized by a similarly fearsome fixture, specifically a maternal witch said to lurk in the noisy toilet, Darya’s sanity begins to wane.”

Trees are Watching is written and directed by Iranian Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi, director of many other films including A Time for Drunken Horses, Turtles Can Fly, Half Moon, No One Knows About Persian Cats, Rhino Season, A Flag Without a Country, and The Four Walls previously. Produced by Seyfi Sahin, Bahman Ghobadi, Lydia Dean Pilcher, and Golriz Ehtiati. With cinematography by Saba Mazloum & Touraj Aslani.
