Delta is upping its ambitions in Texas, a longtime stronghold of American Airlines and Southwest.
Austin could be on its way to becoming Delta’s next hub: The carrier opened a base with 100 flight attendants at the airport, secured 15 gates, and is opening another lounge.
Delta is launching the airport’s first nonstop service to Europe with a route to Paris that’s set to begin operations on March 27, 2027. And at Delta’s merch store, under a section where it sells merchandise themed around its hubs, it is selling Austin-themed pint glasses, keychains, and t-shirts.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian told the “Airlines Confidential” podcast Wednesday that the carrier wants to be bigger in Texas, seeking more growth in Austin and San Antonio.
