Danhausen appeared on The Stephen A. Smith Show on Wednesday, and the discussion inevitably centered on the WWE star’s recent involvement with the New York Knicks.
For those unfamiliar, Danhausen first placed a curse on Smith after the two butted heads on ESPN’s First Take. Shortly thereafter, the Knicks — Smith’s favorite basketball team — fell behind the Atlanta Hawks 2-1 in their first-round playoff series, a fact Danhausen referenced during an episode of SmackDown.
The Very Nice, Very Evil WWE superstar later uncursed the Knicks, which coincided with the team going on a remarkable 13-0 run. The team’s undefeated streak came to an abrupt halt in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, a game attended by both Danhausen and President Donald Trump.
Smith wasted little time in laying the blame of the loss at Trump’s feet, as he previously did immediately after the defeat, while speaking with Danhausen.
The sports commentator began the segment by announcing he now loves Danhausen for helping the Knicks end their 53-year championship drought by downing the Spurs in five games before the spooky wrestler recounted a brief history of the playoffs.
“We cursed, they lost two games. We uncursed, 13-0.” Danhausen said. “They lost one, we won’t talk about that. That wasn’t my fault, that wasn’t your fault.”
Smith then used the opportunity to take a dig at the president (repeatedly). He said, “That’s Trump. That was Trump. That’s Trump. That wasn’t me. That was Donald Trump. That was Donald Trump.”
“I didn’t say it!” Danhausen exclaimed to distance himself from Smith’s comment.
“Wait a minute. You’re supposed to be the almighty, the all-powerful Danhausen. Are you scared of the president? Are you scared to say what I said?” Smith asked.
“No!” Danhausen replied.
“You sure?” Smith asked.
“Danhausen’s powers can only go so far,” came the response, prompting Smith to say: “I mean, it should go further than the White House. You should be all right. You shouldn’t be scared. If I’m not scared of the president, why you gonna be scared of the president?”
“Oh, Danhausen’s not afraid, but I’m just saying, sometimes those powers get blocked. Every once in a while, one will come across and block it,” Danhausen explained. “That night [Game 3], it got blocked. But, after that, though, we’ll ignore that one. We’ll go past because they won.”
Smith also asked Danhausen if he saw Knicks captain Jalen Brunson recently saying that he believed in the WWE star’s powers over the playoffs.
“Now he believes it,” Danhausen said. “I think the whole team believes it.”
When asked if he would use his powers to help the Knicks win another championship next year, Danhausen mostly skirted around the question. However, he did say: “I think we’ve got a shot. I think we can go two in a row.”
