New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani flexed his political muscle Tuesday, getting a clean sweep as his three endorsed congressional candidates advanced to November’s general election, ousting two incumbent Democratic congressmen.
There were several high-profile races across New York on Tuesday, as well as primaries in Maryland and Utah and primary runoffs in South Carolina.
In New York’s 7th Congressional District, ABC News projects that Mamdani-backed state Assemblywoman Claire Valdez will win over Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

In the 10th District, another Mamdani-backed candidate, former city comptroller Brad Lander will beat incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman, ABC News projects.
And in the 13th District, the mayor’s candidate, community advocate Darializa Avila Chevalier, will beat incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, ABC News projects.
In an upstate race to replace retiring New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, ABC News projects businessman Anthony Constantino, who made headlines in 2024 for placing a large “Vote for Trump” sign atop his Mohawk Valley Sticker Mule factory, will be the Republican nominee in the 21st District.
Constantino was supported by President Donald Trump, who released a video in support of his endorsee on Monday. The race highlighted a divide in the Empire State’s Republican Party, with the chair of the New York Republican State Committee backing Robert Smullen, a state assemblyman and retired Marine Corps officer.

Constantino will face dairy farmer Blake Gendebien, who ABC News projects will win the Democratic nomination, in November.
And in another race that could determine control of Congress, ABC News projects that former National Security Council Counterterrorism Director Cait Conley will win the Democratic primary to take on Republican Rep. Mike Lawler in the purple 17th District.
Maryland primaries
Maryland state Delegate Adrian Boafo is projected by ABC News to win the Democratic nomination to succeed retiring Rep. Steny Hoyer in the state’s 5th District. A former aide to Hoyer, Boafo received the longtime congressman’s endorsement, as well as those of Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and U.S. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks in a crowded primary.
ABC News projects Moore will win the Democratic primary for governor. Moore is widely seen as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate. He’ll face state Del. Dan Cox, who ABC News projects will win the Republican primary, in a rematch of the 2024 governor’s race.

South Carolina governor runoff
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson will win the runoff in the state’s Republican gubernatorial primary, ABC News projects.
Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette finished first in the primary after an endorsement by President Donald Trump, but didn’t get the necessary 50% of the vote to win outright. Last Friday, Trump announced he was endorsing both Evette and Wilson.
Wilson was also endorsed by South Carolina Republican Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman after they were eliminated in the primary.
Wilson will face state Rep. Jermaine Johnson, who won the Democratic primary.
Utah primaries
Former U.S. Rep. Ben McAdams will win the Democratic primary in Utah’s 1st District, ABC News projects, a district that Democrats hope to flip in the midterms after Utah’s court-ordered redistricting produced the solidly blue district around Salt Lake City.
McAdams will face Naval Reserve officer and former Trump White House analyst Riley Owen, who Republicans nominated at their convention in November.
