Not much for me to say except, “Ya got me, Melo”.
Over the weekend, Carmelo Hayes subtly changed his social media profile. Combined with the fact we haven’t seen him on WWE television for two months, it was enough to lead me and a lot of other folks on the wrestle web (including AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman) to conclude Hayes was on his way out of the company.
But he was just setting us up for his surprising reveal as the newest member of Raw’s 946 stable. It’s a nice landing spot the former NXT and United States champion, because there aren’t many acts being pushed harder in all of wrestling these days than Royce Keys’ Bloodline-busting faction.
We’re still waiting on an explanation of why Hayes (or Jaida Parker, for that matter, although NXT-heads know of her past affiliation with fellow 946-ers OTM, Lucien Price and Bronco Nima) joined the Oakland-linked group. But he’s selling it online, along with taking a small victory lap for working us by paraphrasing a famous Mark Twain quote…
“The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated”
Ain’t Nobody Safe 😈 #946
Where do you stand on Melo joining the 946? Are you onboard regardless of his explanation, or do you not even need one? Do you think Hayes’ WWE ceiling is higher now than it was earlier this year?
