In this third video of my Canada travel series, I’m visiting Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, a part of Atlantic Canada famous for its incredible scenery and strong Scottish connections. As someone from Scotland, I’ve wanted to visit Cape Breton in Canada for years to discover how Scottish heritage and Gaelic culture in Canada have survived thousands of miles across the Atlantic.
Continuing my Nova Scotia road trip, I set off on a Cape Breton road trip, exploring small communities, learning about the island’s Scottish heritage and travelling through the spectacular Cape Breton Highlands and along the famous Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia. From Scottish place names and traditions to music, history and the Gaelic language, I was fascinated by how many connections to Scotland still exist here today.
This was one of the parts of my Canada road trip through East Coast Canada I was most excited about. As a Scottish person visiting Cape Breton, Canada, I wanted to discover some of the best places to visit in Cape Breton, experience this beautiful part of Nova Scotia travel, and find out just how Scottish Canada’s Scottish island really is… and whether any of it would remind me of home.
