“Don’t worry! She always comes back…” 1-2 Special has unveiled the official trailer for a unique little indie creation called Rose of Nevada, the latest from Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin (known for his grainy lo-fi films Bait & Enys Men). This premiered at the 2025 Venice & Toronto & NY & London Film Festivals last fall – set for a US opening in art house theaters this June. This new one is actually a low-key sci-fi film with some time travel in it. A tale of dislocation & regeneration starring George MacKay & Callum Turner. A mysterious missing fishing boat returns to a village 30 years after vanishing. Two men join its crew hoping for better fortune. After one voyage, they find themselves transported back in time, mistaken for the original crew. Shooting on a 16mm Bolex camera & constructing all the sound in post, Jenkin writes, directs, edits and scores a haunting, hallucinatory time-travel mystery. “Jenkin conducts a cinematic séance, conjuring a portal into another world that forces us to confront the past and our relationship to it.” I’m not the biggest fan of this film (a bit slow) but the filmmaking is distinct and there’s nothing else like it out there in cinema. // Continue Reading ›
