BAKU, Azerbaijan –The first day of the 2026 Baku Beach World Series saw three-time World champion Eliana Bommarito go 1-1 for Team USA at Sea Breeze Resort in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Coming off back-to-back gold medals at the Porec Beach World Series and the Batumi Beach World Series, Bommarito started this week’s action with a 3-0 victory over six-time Beach World Series medalist and 2016 World bronze medalist Stefania Zacheila of Greece at +70 kg.
In the second set of round-robin matches, Bommarito suffered a 4-0 defeat to Daria Konstantynova of Ukraine.
Heading into the final day of the Baku Beach World Series, Konstantynova leads the weight class with a 2-0 mark, followed by Bommarito at 1-1. Bommarito wraps up the round robin on Saturday against two-time age-group World champion and Batumi Beach World Series silver medalist Mariia Zenkina of Ukraine, who is also 1-1. Konstantynova faces Zacheila in the other round three match at +70 kg.
On the men’s side, the U.S. had both entrants, Bryan Coll and Jacob Bumgardner, drawn into knockout series. Coll and Bumgardner both missed out on the group stage of the tournament after bowing out in the knockout rounds.
At 70 kg, Coll lost 3-0 and 4-0 to Russia’s Vikor Nikolaev. Bumgardner dropped a 3-0 decision to Tornike Tulashvili of Georgia in their first match at 90 kg, then Bumgardner injury defaulted in the second bout.
