Ash By Elegance talks “mystery illness” and ICU stays

During a recent interview, Ash By Elegance opened up about going through what she called a “mystery illness” that resulted in stays in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This health issue forced Ash, formerly known as Dana Brooke in WWE, to vacate the TNA Knockouts Championship at TNA Victory Road 2025 last September. In an episode of the Generation of Wrestling podcast posted over the weekend, she revealed that she was once told she would never wrestle again, while noting the health issue is not a wrestling injury.

“I’m still going through it, which is crazy. You don’t have to have like an injury, or what I’m going through is a health issue, and you know a lot of people—especially in my situation—I don’t look sick. I feel good today but tomorrow might not,” Ash said. “So, it’s definitely a health issue, everything that I’m going through.”

Ms. By Elegance indicated that she will further discuss her health once she has a more solid explanation of what’s been happening to her.

“I had mentioned once I have a solid diagnosis—my issue is, it’s weird. They call it like a medical mystery. I’ve done so many things,” she said. “I spent numerous days in the ICU that nobody really knows about, because I haven’t put that out there yet until I honestly can find out really what this is, which we’re on a good track now.”

She continued: “It was scary. In the beginning, what had happened that kind of forced me into retirement has like trickled now into this, and it’s kind of all adding up to being this one diagnosis. I’m just not going to say it yet until it’s really out there.”

Ash later added that once there’s a firm diagnosis, “then I’m going to be very comfortable sharing what’s going on, and hopefully I can help somebody that can help another person along the way.”

She said that once she was told the she could no longer wrestle, she became even more determined to return to the ring. After putting in hard work, she said doctors eventually said she was medically good to wrestle again, and she announced her return to TNA in January.

Her Elegance Brand stable is now a regular staple on TNA television. Even still, she still feels the effects of the health issue.

“It’s just sometimes it’s difficult, because my body kind of goes a little wonky,” Ash said, adding she has more hurdles to clear coming up.

“I have a couple more tests,” she said. “Knock on wood, everything is going to be fine.”

Cageside Seats wishes Ash By Elegance all the best in her continuing recovery.
