When most people think of the Scottish islands, they picture remote places like the Outer Hebrides, Shetland or Orkney. But this time I’m visiting an island that’s much easier to reach. Just a short CalMac ferry ride from the mainland lies the Isle of Bute, an island that was once named Scotland’s Best Place to Live.

In this Isle of Bute travel guide, I spend two days exploring some of the best things to do on the Isle of Bute, from Rothesay Castle and the beautiful Victorian Fernery to hidden beaches, ancient ruins and the spectacular Mount Stuart House. Along the way I explore Rothesay, attempt to drive the island’s famously winding road and discover why so many people fall in love with this beautiful corner of Argyll and Bute, Scotland.

A few years ago, I barely knew anything about Scotland’s national drink. However, after travelling around Scotland, exploring the Isle of Islay, visiting many Scottish whisky distilleries, and learning more about Scotch whisky, I have somehow become a serious whisky convert!

In this video, I travel to the Ardnamurchan Distillery, one of my favourite whisky distilleries, located on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula on Scotland's wild west coast. I learn more about how Scotch whisky is made at Ardnamurchan, see parts of the whisky production process, try peated and unpeated whisky, and discover why this young Scotch whisky distillery has become so respected for its sustainability, transparency and incredible flavour.

From cask selection to bottling, labelling and trying the first dram back at the Ardnamurchan whisky distillery, this is a very special whisky documentary about launching my first ever whisky!

This week I’m exploring the Cowal Peninsula, often called Scotland's secret coastline. It's a part of Scotland I knew surprisingly little about, despite spending years travelling around the country.

I love discovering remote and lesser-known parts of Scotland, and Cowal felt like exactly that. A coastline of hidden beaches, historic castles, rainforest-like gardens and small west coast villages, all explored in my little red campervan, Ernie.

In this Scotland travel vlog, I drive through the Scottish Highlands from the Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint down Loch Eck and along the scenic west coast of Argyll.

Some other highlights of my time exploring Cowal include visiting Benmore Botanic Garden, Dunoon, Tighnabruaich, Ostel Bay, Portavadie, and Old Castle Lachlan while discovering what I think is one of the most underrated road-trip destinations in Scotland.
