Kyle Fletcher’s injury forced AEW to vacate the TNT championship, and Tony Khan decided his successor would be crowned in a Casino Gauntlet match at Dynasty tonight (April 12) on PPV from Tommaso Ciampa and RUSH won the right to the start the match, but despite doing their best to knock each others’ block off…
… neither could score a pin before Bandido, Speedball Mike Bailey, El Clon, Daniel Garcia, PAC, Anthony Bowens, and Kevin Knight followed. The Bastard got a lot of shine during this portion of the match…
… and we also got a fair amount of Death Riders vs. JetSpeed action, especially after Daniel Garcia entered to give the Riders a numbers advantage. It also helped set-up our finish, where Garcia had Speedball trapped in a Dragontamer when Knight hit him with a UFO Splash to grab a win — and his first AEW singles title.
JetSpeed and Mistico just lost the Trios titles to The Dogs on Collision last night, and there have been signs of tension as Knight and his partner starts to have more and more success on their own. Bailey came up short in his home country tonight and didn’t give any sign of blaming Jet for it, but we’ll keep an eye on the new champ and Speedball going forward.
