Don Callis addressed the injury to Kyle Fletcher early on the April 8 AEW Dynamite, comparing his wrestling Family to a sports team where he’s the coach. That comparison was then applied to frequently bickering Family members Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita, who Callis referred to as his Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen (for the non-sportsballers out there, they were the engine of one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties, the 1990s Chicago Bulls — but they hate each other’s guts). The hated manager taunted wrestling fans that they’d never get the highly anticipated (by this writer, anyway) one-on-one rematch between The Rainmaker and The Alpha.

But in the aftermath of the match Don announced in that segment, Okada and Takeshita were only able to stay on the same page briefly while The Family battled The Young Bucks and The Rascalz.

That brawl backfired on the Family, and gave us some build to Okada’s International title defense against The Rascalz’ Myron Reed on Collision. It also teed Callis up to reveal that he was going to get ProtOkada booked to face The Young Bucks at Dynasty this Sunday (April 12). But with Fletcher on the shelf, he’s turning to his Jordan and Pippen.
Neither Alpha nor Rainmaker was happy with the news. In fact, Takeshita was so pissed he told Don he’d only do it if he gets a singles match with Okada for his belt. An exasperated Callis agreed to let them have the match at Double or Nothing in New York this May, but did mention the rivals needing to get along against The Bucks this Sunday. Was it a condition for getting to face one another? If so, Takeshita needing to be restrained after Okada declared himself the Jordan of their duo (everybody gets that though, right?) probably isn’t a good sign…

The Bucks vs. Okada and Takeshita (who were destined to not get along because their surnames don’t form a cool-sounding team name like ProtOkada or ProtoShita) was made official soon after. It was one of three matches added to the card for this weekend in Vancouver, along with Chris Jericho’s first match in more than a year, and the TNT title Casino Gauntlet:
- AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Kenny Omega
- AEW Women’s World Championship: Thekla (c) vs. Jamie Hayter
- AEW World Tag Team Championship: FTR (c) vs. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage
- AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Will Ospreay
- Darby Allin vs. Andrade El Idolo
- The Young Bucks vs. Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita
- Chris Jericho vs. Ricochet
- TNT championship: Tommaso Ciampa starts a Casino Gauntlet for the vacant title
- Alex Windsor vs. Marina Shafir (pre-show)
Sound worth a few sawbucks and groggy Monday morning?
