The IInspiration joined AEW during its trip to their home country of Australia this past February. Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay — formerly known as Peyton Royce and Billie Kay when they were The IIconics for WWE — seemed like an odd fit for Tony Khan’s company from the jump. A legitimately good comedy duo, Lee and McKay are capable but unspectacular in-ring workers… aka the opposite of what TK and team usually look for in signees.
So it was a little surprising when the only team to ever win WWE and TNA Women’s Tag gold was fed to The Brawling Birds in their Dynamite debut. After that though, it hasn’t been shocking that the IInspiration have only wrestled a handful of times for AEW or Ring of Honor… although I didn’t expect their getting squashed by Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor would be their only AEW appearance. I mean, their best moment came when they made a quick run in Japan at TJPW to add that joshi promotion’s tag titles to their resume. And so McKay could remind us just how funny she can be.
Lee hasn’t wrestled since a singles match in ROH in June, but her partner’s last was in one of their tag outings a month earlier. Thanks to this social media post today (Aug. 28), we know part of why that is.
4 months of growing you baby girl & a lifetime of loving you
This will be McKay’s second child. Her son will be three-years-old in December. We could also have a budding HHouse of IIconic faction on our hands for 2053 or so. Lee and her husband, WWE’s Shawn Spears, already have two kids. Goofy wrestling fan digression out of the way…
Join us in sending out congrats to Jessie McKay’s growing family, and wish her all the best over the second half of her pregnancy!
