Watch: Bethenny Frankel Shares She Was “Misdiagnosed” With Major Condition in Health Update
Bethenny Frankel is keeping it real when it comes to her health.
The Real Housewives of New York City alum detailed a “slightly nerve-wracking” trip to “a very high-end medical service” where she received an unexpected suggestion to prevent breast cancer.
“They did a bunch of tests—like genetic tests and blood tests,” Frankel said in an Oct. 15 Instagram video, “and then they said, ‘You are at 98 percent risk for breast cancer.’”
According to the 55-year-old, “The woman said, ‘I would just get a double mastectomy because I would want to be sure.’ I was like a stunned deer, looking at her like, ‘Um, OK.’”
However, after Frankel asked for some space to contemplate the provider’s advice, she shared a separate women’s health specialist came in the room and assured her that she didn’t need a double mastectomy quite yet.
As the Skinnygirl founder recalled, “She’s like, ‘No, no, you don’t need that now. You just have to be very serious and diligent about testing.’”
So, Frankel—mom to daughter Bryn, 16, with ex Jason Hoppy—has since gone in for an MRI on her breasts where she said doctors found “something tiny” that she needed to get a biopsy on, though the radiologist told her she wasn’t “particularly concerned.”
Still, the reality TV star—who also said she had been misdiagnosed with chronic kidney disease—went in for a biopsy and discovered some surprising news.

“They had me come out and said, ‘We can’t find the thing we found before,’” she shared, “‘so, come back for an MRI in six months.’ The end.”
Despite the “slightly nerve-wracking” experience, Frankel emphasized the lesson she took from her medical experience.
“All I can say is be diligent, be thorough, double check, triple check, get checked,” she continued. “Be overly cautious. There’s a lot of s–t. And you know what? Most things don’t happen, but some things do. So, I’m on it. I’m being proactive.”
