John Boyega Privately Got Married 2 Years Ago, Expecting First Baby

Watch: John Boyega Pays Homage to Luke Skywalker

John Boyega is ready for his next mission.

The Star Wars actor revealed he privately tied the knot “coming up on two years” ago, adding that he and his wife are currently expecting their first baby together, a little boy.

“We both like the idea of celebrating something established,” Boyega told The Guardian in a recent interview of why he and his bride had a low-key wedding, “rather than celebrating the entry.”

And while they opted for a small ceremony when it came to their nuptials, Boyega shared he’d “love” to have a bigger bash in the future. As the They Cloned Tyrone star put it, someday they’ll “have to shut Nigeria down!”

Though Boyega didn’t mention his bride by name, rumors that he and actress Lashontae Heckard tied the knot emerged after she shared photos of herself donning rings on that finger. Elsewhere in the Sept. 22 Instagram post was a zoomed in photo of Boyega’s face, with her using the reflection in his sunglasses to take a selfie.

Sharing details about his own bling, Boyega told the outlet that he has two sets of rings: a two-toned band that holds “sentimental” value from an unexpected place and another band that he got later on.

“This is the one we decided to pick up spontaneously because I just wanted the ring on my finger, so we went to Walmart to get this,” he noted of the two-toned band. “It was a lovely trip to Walmart. Shout out, Walmart Canoga Park!”

But with their quiet chapter as newlyweds in the rearview, he is certain the Force is with his parenthood journey.

“We got a baby cooking,” he said. “My life is completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing.”

And while he joked that the idea of stepping into fatherhood feels “funny,” he knows he’s just the stormtrooper for the job.

“I’ve tried to, as much as possible—especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot—to decenter my career,” he said. “There have been certain moments when I’ve known that this is a time for family. There’s stuff to do.”

As for what he’s bringing to the table in his next chapter?

“I’m present,” he said, “I’m consistent and full of love.”
