Nearly two years after Michelle Trachtenbergdied following complications from diabetes mellitus, her Gossip Girl costar celebrated her 41st birthday with a sweet tribute.
“Happy birthday angel,” Momsen captioned her Oct. 11 Instagram post, sharing a selfie of Trachtenberg, “I will always love and miss you.”
Meanwhile, Trachtenberg’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer costar Sarah Michelle Gellaralso added some love in the comments, writing, “Love you friend.”
After the Ice Princess star’s unexpected death in February 2025 at age 39, Momsen shared an emotional reflection on their longtime friendship.
“When I met this girl 17 years ago, I knew we’d be friends,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “She was smart and sassy, bold and sensitive, funny as f–k and filled with fire. She was simply awesome.”
While Jenny Humphrey (Momsen) and Georgina Sparks (Trachtenberg) didn’t run in the same circles on Gossip Girl, their offscreen bond was stronger than ever.
“I’ll miss our late-night calls that no one should ever hear but us,” the Pretty Reckless singer continued. “She was always in my corner and there to support me whether I was right or wrong. I will miss you every day my love..I think we truly understood each other and I am so grateful to have had a friend like you in my life for so long.”
She also shared a message directly to her former costar, adding, “I hope you’re f–king up heaven for both of us.”
A year after her death, Momsen took a moment to pay tribute with another heartfelt message. This time, she reflected on the weight of Trachtenberg’s passing.
“It’s weird how the body clock remembers,” the 33-year-old wrote on Instagram in February. “Last night I was sitting in my hotel room alone in SĂŁo Paulo, I didn’t know what the date was (they all blend together on tour).”
“I was hit with an overwhelming sadness over MichelleâŚthen I wake up and realize it’s been a year without her,” she continued. “Life is hard. I wishâŚI missâŚI wish⌔
