MyCareer and MyTeam hit the bench

We NBA 2K fans are no strangers to an online server shutdown, but 2K is pushing the boat out even further this year, as it has announced that NBA 2K25 is being fully delisted later this month, with the ensuing server closings pruning the title’s two best game modes (thanks for the heads up, VGC).
The publisher recently took to the 2K25 Steam page to announce that the game will be removed from online storefronts on 30th October 2026, with all online content shutting up shop on 31st December. Those who already own the 2024 edition will be able to redownload it after the October cutoff, but all online modes will be gone for good as of January 2027.

The disappointing thing this time around is that 2K25’s best modes (MyCareer and MyTeam) are tied to virtual currency progression, and thus will no longer be playable after the server shutdown. For the already watered-down Switch version (which doesn’t boast the MyNBA, The W, or MyWNBA game modes), only the ‘Play Now’ option will remain after the servers close — and without any online multiplayer options at that.
Those who played NBA 2K25 on Switch 1 will likely remember that both MyCareer and MyTeam were lesser experiences on the hybrid system than on next-gen consoles, with the former lacking any story content, and the absence of cross-play support ruining online match-ups for both. That said, they were undoubtedly the best single-player options that the game had to offer, so anyone hoping to keep playing instead of coughing up for the next iterative release will be left empty-handed.
Naturally, 2K has continued its annual release schedule in the years since, so NBA 2K26 and 2K27 are still available to download and play on Switch 2. Then again, we’d be surprised if the MyCareer and MyTeam options in these later entries don’t end up meeting the same delisted fate down the line.
