Bobbi Althoff‘s religious background isn’t a secret.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County star addressed her casting and clarified her connection to the Mormon church ahead of the Hulu spinoff’s Nov. 12 premiere.

“I am not Mormon, but I do have a Mormon brother,” Althoff explained in an Instagram Story video posted on Sept. 29. “And I grew up going to Mormon church, like, twice.”

Indeed, the 29-year-old does not exactly have deep ties to the Mormon church. As Althoff previously put it, she grew up in a household that identified as Christian, but her dad “didn’t really lead a Christian life.”

“We considered ourselves Christian,” Althoff said during a 2024 appearance on Rainn Wilson‘s Soul Boom podcast. “I feel like my parents indoctrinated me with religion.”

And during her four-year marriage to ex Cory Althoff—with whom she shares daughters Luca, 5, and Isla, 3—the podcaster said she “stopped being religious” since her husband at the time “didn’t really believe in anything.”

“That wasn’t like he forced me to,” Althoff continued. “It wasn’t a part of our lives.”

But when the couple divorced in 2024, Althoff started getting “back into religion.”

“Divorce is a very sad thing. I had to find something, so I started going to church again,” she shared, adding that she simply believes in “something bigger than me that can hear my thoughts and make me feel better about things.”

But Althoff is not the only person in the Mormon Wives: OC cast who doesn’t identify as Mormon. After all, her castmate Avery Woods admitted in a 2023 episode of her Cheers! podcast that she’s “the opposite of Mormon.”

Meanwhile, Aspyn Ovard said she was baptized and raised in a “Mormon-adjacent” community in Utah, though “that’s kind of where it ends for me.”

“It’s like you’re not Mormon,” Ovard explained in a 2025 episode of Girlscamp, “but you do follow a lot of similar things.”
