The Witcher 3 Remastered brings tons of graphics improvements, but developer CD Projekt Red has left one incredibly important creature as it was: the pigeon.
Ahead of the remaster’s public release, updated pigeon models were found in the game, but it only seems to apply to pigeons that are hanging out on the ground. Still, some people were upset with the assumed change, with one person posting the new ground-based model with the old flying one in a Reddit post captioned, “Gone, but never forgotten.”
Luckily, it seems like the beloved low-poly pigeon has survived the remaster, as it was spotted by Kotaku Editor-in-Chief Ethan Gach on X / Twitter out in the wild. Apparently, The Witcher 3 uses different pigeon models for flying and grounded birds! If anything, the low-polygon pigeon looks even funnier in the remaster, as it shows the (lack of) detail even better with the updated lighting.
So, even though The Witcher 3 Remastered came with a whole host of graphics improvements, it does seem like some old assets have kept their place in the game. Hopefully, CD Projekt Red also kept in some of the low-detail food in the game as well.
The Witcher 3 Remastered has only been out a few hours, but it’s already breaking player records. It’s broken the 11-year-old game’s peak Steam concurrent player count, and the number looks set to rise further as we get closer to the weekend.
