Unicorn Overlord was one of our very favourite games of 2024, so you can imagine our excitement this morning when we found out that the game’s director and former Vanillaware dev, Takafumi Noma, has unveiled his next project, and it looks expectedly stunning.

Dawngazer is an action RPG from Noma’s new fantasy-based studio, Ignisphere. We know very little about the game itself for the time being, but the dev and publisher Good Smile has announced that it’ll launch on Switch 2 at some point in 2028.

Unicorn Overlord composer Yoshimi Kudo (who also worked on the Elden Ring score) will pen the game’s music, which explains why the first trailer’s backing track is such a fantasy banger.

The above teaser trailer adopts a very similar visual style to Unicorn Overlord and 13 Sentinels, as we see a bunch of beautiful fantasy folk walking through some medieval-looking streets. Hey, there’s even a plot twist at the end of the vid — that takes some doing!

Aside from being the new studio name, Ignisphere is also set to be a fantasy IP of its own, with the dev proposing figures from Good Smile, a series of light novels with KADOKAWA, and more. Hey, we’re always game for more new series.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more Dawngazer information in the coming year — though the 2028 release window makes us think we won’t hear anything any time soon.
