Nine months of work down the drain

Sony has sent a letter to PC modder Speclizer requesting they don’t release a multiplayer mod that they have had in the works for The Last of Us 2 for the past nine months.
The modder shared the news on social media, stating: “Hey everyone, as you all know, the TLOU 2 Multiplayer mod that has been in development since January was supposed to release this month. Unfortunately, I recently received a letter on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting for the mod not to be released.”
Speclizer then thanked everyone for their support and asked it carries over to a new project they’re working on, which is something original. “I hope to bring you something bigger and better soon!”
The modder had intended to have the mod available in full by the end of this month, but that will no longer happen.
It was a fairly straightforward offering, more akin to the Factions multiplayer from the first game, rather than the plans Naughty Dog had for the actual The Last of Us 2 online portion before it was cancelled. Characters from the main game could compete in multiplayer matches across locations from the campaign like a typical online mode from the PS3 era.
PC modder Speclizer now moves on to a new project and The Last of Us 2 remains without a multiplayer mode on PC.
