The Original Shrek Movie Is Getting a 4K Steelbook for Its 25th Anniversary

Shrek is more than just a movie at this point, it’s a cultural phenomenon. Ever since the first film was released back in 2001, our world has been subtly influenced by the existence of this lovable green ogre and his fairy-tale friends. We’re at the point now that you can even buy a Shrek toaster that burns an image of Shrek on your toast. If that isn’t a sign of late-stage Shrekitalism, I don’t know what is.

While there have been several Shrek movies since the first (with a fifth movie on the way!), the original film has held up surprisingly well. The first Shrek movie is so easy to watch again and again, and watching all of the films at once is arguably one of the best movie marathons one can have. So it’s no surprise that a 25th anniversary re-release of Shrek in 4K is already quite popular in the Blu-ray community.

This isn’t the first time Shrek has been released in 4K, and it won’t likely be the last. The previous release was back in 2021 when the movie was first remastered for its 20th anniversary. And based on the product description, the main difference between that version and the 25th anniversary version is the cover. So if you’re a collector of steelbooks, this is absolutely worth checking out, but if you already have Shrek in 4K you can probably skip.

As for what bonuses are actually included on these discs, it’s actually quite a lot of extra content. There are deleted scenes, specials, commentary, and even full episodes of Puss and Boots. If you don’t already own this movie, it’s worth it for all of the extras alone. Some of these weren’t even included in the previous 4K release.

Shrek 25th Anniversary LEGO Sets

Speaking of Shrek collectibles, DreamWorks has recently teamed up with LEGO to release some very popular new builds of everyone’s favorite ogre. The first two shrek sets were released back in June and included a gorgeous 18+ build of Shrek, Donkey, and Puss and Boots. More recently LEGO has released 12 minifigures of fan-favorite characters from the series, only available via mystery boxes.
