“Are healthy people truly alive?” Neon has revealed the first official trailer for the wonderful new film titled All of a Sudden, made by master filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi. After making Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist, this is next film and it’s set in Paris and shot in the French language (along with Japanese of course). It premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and I declared it a masterpiece in my review. It’s utterly breathtaking and sublime in every possible way. Director of a care facility for the elderly, Marie-Lou (Efira) strives to introduce an innovative care philosophy based on listening & respecting residents’ dignity, despite resistance from part of her staff. Her encounter with Mari (Okamoto), a Japanese theater director battling cancer, will profoundly reshape her path. By forming a deep, supportive friendship, the two women join forces in a shared struggle to “make the impossible possible.” Starring Virginie Efira, Tao Okamoto, Kyōzō Nagatsuka, Teruyo Kurosaki. With a score by Canadian-French composer Samuel Andreyev. This is still my #1 film of 2026 so far – I absolutely adore it. It’s so tender and touching and uplifting and hopeful. I could listen to Efira & Okamoto’s conversations for hours and hours. I never want to leave them after this! They’re the best. This is one of my top must see films of 2026 when it opens in theaters this fall.

Paris, France.
