Jenelle Evans is living with extreme discomfort.

The Teen Mom alum gave an update on her overall health after a recent hospital stay, sharing insight into her complex regional pain syndrome diagnosis—a.k.a. CRPS, which she was diagnosed with in July—as well as a cyst on her spinal cord that was discovered in 2022.

“Get ready with me while I explain why I was in the hospital the other day,” the 34-year-old said in a Sept. 7 Instagram video. “I’ll start out by saying I’m gonna try my hardest not to cry, but I found out some news. It’s not great news, but it’s some news.”

Jenelle explained in an attempt to aid the CRPS in her leg, which began after she underwent knee surgery in April, she recently received a steroid shot in her lower back.

“I have been in excruciating pain ever since, which led me to go to the hospital,” she continued. “The symptoms I was experiencing to lead me to the hospital was extreme lower back pain, middle back pain, my neck’s hurting. I am literally in pain from the base of my skull to my tailbone, and it is every single day.”

The staff in the emergency room suggested she undergo an MRI to make sure the steroid shot hadn’t led to an abscess.

“So, they did a whole MRI of my entire spine, from top to bottom, and we got some answers,” Jenelle said, before reminding viewers of the spinal cord cyst—also known as a syrinx—she was diagnosed with four years earlier. “Basically, if it gets too big, I can go paralyzed. And they basically said, ‘Keep an eye on it. Let us know if you feel any symptoms.’ Well, now I feel like I have symptoms.”

Through tears, Jenelle explained that the MRI showed the syrinx has grown from two millimeters to four, and that she has a new cyst alongside her spinal cord.

“I’m in so much pain,” she continued. “I’m in pain if I sit up, lie down. If I lie down, I have extreme headache in the backs of my skull.”

Jenelle—who is a mom to three kids—explained in addition to the specialists monitoring her spine, she’s also seeing a therapist to help navigate the emotions she’s feeling.

“I am literally watching everyone’s lives go past,” she said. “And I am watching everybody having a great summer, great holidays, Labor Day weekend, and I am stuck in the house. And if I try to leave, I am in too much pain.”

And though she noted her therapist reminded her that she will get better, Jenelle said she’s looking for any advice any social users might have.

I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move. So, there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”In fact, he told his followers it had gotten “progressively harder to eat.” But after a while, the paralysis went away.”He’s doing really well,” Hailey said on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, later adding, “He’s feeling a lot better. Obviously, it was just a very scary and random situation to happen, but he’s going to be totally OK and I’m just grateful that he’s fine.”

At a 2013 brain scan, she learned a growth “doubled in size” and that she needed surgery again.”When they woke me, I was screaming in pain,” she wrote. “The procedure had failed. I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn’t operate again. This time they needed to access my brain in the old-fashioned way—through my skull.”Thankfully, Emilia shared, she’s now “at a hundred per cent.”
