Series sales top 10 million

Capcom – the publisher that can seemingly do no wrong right now – has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword has surpassed 1 million sales in its first day of release.
It’s yet another remarkable accomplishment for the publisher; one that pushes the cumulative sales for the series over 10 million. By comparison, Pragmata surpassed 1 million sales in two days, while Resident Evil Requiem managed to shift over 5 million in less than a week.
How do they do it?! Well, we’ll tell you how. Capcom just makes really damn good games these days. Onimusha in particular has always been held in high regard, even if its commercial success never reached the same heights as the publisher’s other IP.

We don’t have specific data for each platform, so it’s not clear how well Switch 2 did with its Onimusha sales, but with today’s UK Charts at least, the platform split leant heavily in favour of the PS5, with Sony’s console making up 87% of the split.
Meanwhile, we awarded Onimusha: Way of the Sword a score of 9/10 in our review. We called it “a successful revival of Capcom’s samurai franchise that pushes its gameplay in an exciting new direction while still retaining its core identity”.
