“Don’t they have to prove what they claim?” Neon has revealed the first official US trailer for the film titled Fjord, the latest from Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu following R.M.N. a few years ago. This first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to a divisive set of reviews, with lots of love and hate across the board. Fjord went on to win the Palme d’Or top prize at Cannes, though in my opinion the entirely wrong pick. Set and filmed entirely in Norway. The Gheorghiu family, with a Romanian father and a Norwegian mother, have moved to the mother’s birthplace, a tiny Norwegian village on a Fjord, befriending the neighboring Halberg family. When the Gheorghius are suspected of disturbing behavior regarding their children, their lives are thrown into chaos as they become the center of scrutiny. Starring Sebastian Stan as Mihai and Renate Reinsve as Lisbet, along with Lisa Carlehed, Henrikke Lund-Olsen, Vanessa Ceban, Jonathan Ciprian Breazu, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Markus Tønseth. While it is a well-made film with good performances, it’s an entirely misguided and politically problematic depiction of modern society – as covered in our Cannes review. It’s definitely not for everyone. Take a look.
Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Cristian Mungiu’s film Fjord, direct from YouTube:

From two-time Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner Cristian Mungiu – a Norwegian woman and her devout Romanian husband (Sebastian Stan & Renate Reinsve) relocate with their 5 children to a remote, close-knit, coastal town. Their teen children form a fast bond with another neighboring family as unease begins to simmer around their rigid beliefs. When allegations of abuse emerge, they are forced to confront a system of judgment that blurs the line between concern and prejudice. Fjord is written & directed by acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, director of the films Occident, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Tales from the Golden Age, Beyond the Hills, Graduation, and R.M.N. previously. It first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival this year where it won the Palme d’Or (read our review). Neon will release Mungiu’s Fjord film in select US theaters starting on October 9th, 2026 this fall. Anyone want to watch?
