First Trailer for ‘Queen at Sea’ with Juliette Binoche & Tom Courtenay​

“In this regard, I know her better than you do.” Greenwich Ent. has unveiled the official trailer for the indie film Queen at Sea, a London drama from filmmaker Lance Hammer – his first since his original debut Ballast in 2008. This premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and played at a number of other fests throughout the year. Now set for a US release in limited theaters this fall after its festival run. As dementia erodes an elderly woman’s ability to communicate her inner life, her new husband and daughter struggle to act in her best interest, navigating love and the fragile boundaries between care, protection, and autonomy. An intimate tale of morality and consent. Starring Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall, and Florence Hunt. Featuring cinematography by Oscar-nominee Adolpho Veloso of Train Dreams. I saw this film at Berlinale and did not care much for it. There’s an interesting point it’s trying to make, but it does so in such a manipulative and melodramatic way that it’s hard to fully support it.

Amanda (Juliette Binoche) and her stepfather Martin (Tom Courtenay) struggle with a moral issue that divides them. Has Amanda’s mother Leslie, who has dementia, lost the ability to make critical decisions in her own best interests? And, if so, who is now responsible – a spouse, a child, or even an institution – for making such a determination? As Amanda and Martin are forced to make increasingly difficult choices, the repercussions spiral out of their control. Queen at Sea is both written and directed by American indie filmmaker Lance Hammer, making his second feature film after originally directing Ballast back in 2008. Produced by Tristan Goligher and Lance Hammer. This initially premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and also played at the Sydney and Edinburgh Film Fests.
