Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will appear at upcoming WWE event, unless he doesn’t

WWE just quietly dropped one of the strongest indications yet that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could soon make an appearance for the company after being absent from the wrestling world for well over a year.

On Tuesday, WWE uploaded a new image on social media to promote a two-day tryout in Hawaii that features Johnson front and center. A previous version of the same advertisement featured only Roman Reigns and the Usos, who still appear on the new version with their more famous relative.

The Rock was last seen on WWE programming in 2025, when he was featured prominently in the WWE storyline that saw John Cena finally turn heel during his retirement tour. However, he drew The Final Boss drew the ire of many wrestling fans when he disappeared without explanation and didn’t show up at the WrestleMania 41 showdown between Cena and Cody Rhodes.

Johnson later explained that he wanted the focus to be on the more active wresters in the angle and not on himself, yet there have been persistent rumors of bad blood between himself and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

While The Rock is obviously an incredibly busy man with a career in Hollywood, a tequila business, and even a nascent musical career, could he finally be returning to WWE? The setting of the tryouts would certainly be appropriate, given Johnson spent part of his childhood in Hawaii.

WWE is coming to Hawaii for two live events on October 16 and 17 at the Blaisdell Arena, and the promotion recently announced it will hold tryouts for prospective talent prior to the shows.

“Hawaii, we are looking for our next Superstar. Think you’ve got what it takes? The opportunity is yours,” WWE said in a press statement.

The statement also noted that coaches, recruiters, and WWE executives will be present at the tryouts. Johnson is a board member of TKO, so he could appear in the capacity of an executive in addition to helping coach the young wrestlers. Since he’s already in the area, Johnson may even take the extra step of turning up to one of if not both of the live shows as well.

But he could also not be at the vents in Hawaii at all. WWE has a history of using the likenesses of former stars to promote various activities, and the new advertisement could simply be a case of the company showcasing a legend with roots in Hawaii.

What do you think, Cagesiders? Will The Rock turn up in Hawaii at the WWE event? Let us know when you think Johnson will be around again in the comments.
