Invest 93E could become next named storm as strengthening El Niño keeps Pacific primed with 6 areas to watch

THE TAKEAWAY

  • The Eastern Pacific is teeming with tropical activity, including Tropical Storm Iselle
  • Invest 93E has a likely chance of becoming the next named storm.
  • Warm waters of the Central and Eastern Pacific are very favorable for tropical development amid strengthening El Niño.

The tropical traffic jam in the Pacific continues to ramp up, fueled by a strengthening El Niño. The FOX Forecast Center is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Iselle — alongside four other disturbances across the Pacific Basin, including Invest 93E, which could become the next named storm.

Tropical Storm Iselle poses no threat to land as it moves west into the open Pacific, where it is expected to gradually weaken over the next few days.

LATEST FROM FOX WEATHER HURRICANE SPECIALIST BRYAN NORCROSS

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Julio formed on Tuesday and quickly degenerated into a remnant low, with its remaining energy being absorbed by Iselle. Further west, Tropical Storm Lala continues churning in open waters but also remains no threat to land.

The FOX Forecast Center is also monitoring four other areas to watch in the Pacific, with all having some potential to develop over the coming days.

The main area to watch is south of Mexico, where a tropical wave has become better organized. It is producing a large area of thunderstorms and has been designated as Invest 93E by the NHC.

Conditions appear favorable for continued development, with a very high chance of formation over the next seven days. A tropical depression could form within a few days as the system moves well offshore.

This system could likely become the next named storm, which would be Karina.

Additionally, another disturbance is developing well east-southeast of Hawaii. A high chance of formation is expected over the next seven days, with a tropical depression potentially developing later this week or early this weekend.

Farther south, another low could develop offshore of Central America this weekend, with a medium chance of formation.

Along with that, a separate disturbance south of Hawaii in the central Pacific has a much lower chance of development, with any development likely occurring late this weekend into early next week.
