Quarterback Chance Thomas has left Bishop Gorman High School and is expected to transfer to Loudoun Sports Academy in Virginia, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Thomas, a senior who joined Bishop Gorman’s program last spring after leaving Western High of Anaheim (Ca.), lost the battle to be the Gaels’ starting quarterback to junior Ace Amina.
Bishop Gorman defeated St. John Bosco on Friday 38-28 in a nationally streamed game with Amina going the entire way. Thomas, who did not start but played in Bishop Gorman’s weather-shortened season-opening win over Losee on Aug. 14, did not see any action against St. John Bosco.
Thomas, a three-star recruiting prospect, committed to Kansas in May after having 27 college offers, including the likes of Arizona State, Utah, USC and Washington.

Thomas led Western to a 6-5 record last season. He was one of the top passers in Southern California, amassing 3,327 yards and 33 touchdowns. Thomas also did damage with his feet as evidenced by his 734 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.
Leaving Western for Bishop Gorman was a calculated gamble. The Gaels had graduated two-year standout Maika Eugenio, who is now playing at Hawaii. Amina had the jump on Thomas, however, in terms of already being in the program for his first two high school seasons.
The battle for the starting job was fierce and remained a mystery deep into the summer until Amina got the nod in Week 0. There was still no clear-cut winner heading into last week’s showdown with fellow powerhouse St. John Bosco, as Gaels head coach Brent Browner said both could play against the Braves.
Amina completed 15 of 22 attempts for 227 yards and four touchdowns last Friday to stamp himself as the unquestioned No. 1.
“That’s how it is when you come here, not just at quarterback, but every position,” Browner said earlier this month. “When you come here, you have to compete and we will never take a kid who doesn’t want to do that. That’s how it’s going to be in college, except there it’s going to be four quarterbacks going for the same job, not just two.”
“We’re a team that’s going to put the best personnel on the field at all times. If there’s a scenario where both (quarterbacks) play, then that’s what we’ll do. But we want to see both players take the job outright.”
WHAT’S NEXT?
Loudoun Sports Academy, a freelance team, had its first varsity football season in 2025 and posted a 6-4 record. The Timberwolves are scheduled to play their season opener on Friday.
As of this writing, Thomas was not listed on the team’s roster, which appears incomplete with only 18 players listed on its MaxPreps page.
