Madelyn Cline knows that Pogues’ mission is to have a good time all the time.

So, when the Outer Banksstar had to continue acting alongside onscreen love interestChase Stokes after breaking up offscreen in real life, she recalled the much-needed conversation they had to have.

“There were moments when it was difficult, absolutely,” Cline explained to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Aug. 20. “But once the dust kind of settled, we were able to just revert to the friendship that we always had.”

“At some point,” she continued, “you look at each other and you’re like, ‘Are you ready to stop being miserable? Because I’m ready.'”

Stokes—who met Cline in the casting office for the Netflix series in 2019—confirmed their romance in June 2020 before ultimately breaking up in November 2021.

And the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress—now dating luxury real estate executive Michael Reyes—knew just how important it was to maintain a positive working relationship for their characters Sarah Cameron and John B after she and Stokes split.

“We’ve said from day one, our job is always to leave the show and the season better than when we left it last,” the 28-year-old explained to People in February 2023. “Outer Banks has always been a family. And I’m just happy that we are able to remain professional.”

Meanwhile, Stokes—who was most recently connected to on-again, off-again ex-girlfriend Kelsea Ballerini—was just as committed to keeping the good vibes on set.

“Mads and I have been working together now for 30 episodes, and we made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first,” the 33-year-old told Entertainment Weeklyin a joint interview with Cline earlier that month. “No matter what happens in our personal lives, and the ways that life sometimes takes you in different directions, we’re always going to honor the work.”

And Cline echoed his comments, chiming in, “We had a working relationship before we had a personal relationship.”
