Our SelectLeaders client, an established real estate development, investment, and property management firm, is seeking a Property Accountant to manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities across a portfolio of residential and commercial real estate assets.
This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring accurate and timely property-level financial reporting while partnering closely with property managers and the broader accounting team. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in property accounting, is highly organized and detail-oriented, and is comfortable taking ownership of accounting responsibilities across multiple properties and entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of residential and/or commercial properties
- Own the monthly accounting and close process for assigned properties
- Prepare, review, and post recurring and adjusting journal entries
- Review general ledger activity and research and resolve discrepancies
- Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules
- Review financial statements for accuracy and identify unusual activity or variances
- Review and approve accounts payable coding
- Manage fixed asset accounting and management fee invoices
- Complete operating expense recoveries, billings, and CAM reconciliations
- Support W-9 and 1099 reporting, use tax reporting, and unclaimed property reporting
- Assist with annual property budgets and budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Support year-end accounting, audits, compliance requests, and other reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation across multiple entities
- Work closely with property managers and vendors to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies
- Serve as an accounting resource for questions related to property financials, coding, expenses, and reporting
- Assist with accounting process improvements, documentation, and special projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Previous property accounting experience required
- Experience managing the full accounting cycle for multiple properties
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Residential/multifamily property accounting experience strongly preferred
- Commercial real estate accounting experience is a plus
- Experience with CAM reconciliations preferred
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with MRI and/or Yardi strongly preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP and property-level financial reporting
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and consistently produce accurate work
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: $80,000–$98,000 annually, with discretionary bonus potential
