Watch: Halsey Dishes on Working With Justin Bieber
Halsey may think she’s bad at love, but she’s really good at debuting hair transformations.
After all, the “Without Me” singer showed off her new look, devoid of her usual dark hues, now covered in a new color: platinum blonde.
Alongside snaps of her light locks in the Aug. 18 Instagram post, Halsey—donning gray track pants, a white crop top and Koss headphones—captioned the pics, “Auprès de ma blonde,” meaning “Next to my girl” in French.
It’s a stark contrast to the 31-year-old’s dark brown pixie cut that she styled a week earlier while moderating a Q&A panel featuring Hannah Einbinder for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma in Los Angeles.
And a month earlier, she took the stage for her The Girl in the Tower European festival run in dark brown boho braids with caramel blonde tendrils peeking through.
From a blue bob to red old Hollywood waves, Halsey’s hair has always been a creative outlet throughout her career.
“I’ve been watching my songwriting evolve. I’ve changed a lot,” she told Elle in a November 2019 interview. “I’ve evolved into a new way of being Halsey, which is still equally as colorful.”
Although the “Eastside” singer (real name Ashley Frangipane) now looks back at her looks with fondness, she admitted that she struggled to accept her natural hair texture as a biracial woman.
“I feel very lucky to be able to look at those photos and feel good about myself,” she reflected. “A couple of years ago, I don’t know if I would have felt that way.”

“I’ve waited for that moment my entire life and there I am, with the hair that my mother and father gave me and with [minimal] makeup on, in a way I’m proud of,” she continued. “To be cool with the world seeing me that way… that says a lot to me about how I’ve grown as a person. I feel really happy and peaceful.”
In fact, the feelings led Halsey—mom to son Ender Aydin, 5, with ex Alev Aydin—to undergo a very bold hair transformation during her journey.
“Hair has also been a big indicator of racial issues in my life,” she explained to NYLON in 2016. “It’s one of the ultimate symbolic struggles for women of color. Shaving my head was important to me because I needed to be able to prove that I could still love myself if I did it.”
But Halsey isn’t the only celeb heading straight for the castle with a brand new look. Keep reading for more stars who debuted their own hair transformations.
