Toy Story 5 Lands on Digital After Massive Box Office Run

Toy Story 5 is now available to rent for $5.99, which gives you access to the movie for 48 hours from the time you hit play, or purchase digitally for $29.99.

I cover a lot of digital releases, and this is by far the cheapest digital renting price I’ve ever seen for a new release. Other recent movies, like Minions & Monsters and even fellow Disney property Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, are asking you to drop $20 minimum.

If you do decide to go for the full purchase, you’ll get access to a spread of digital extras. Prime Video is also specifically offering discounted digital bundles of the Pixar franchise, including a bundle of all five Toy Story movies for $69.99, down from $109.95.

The digital release date was first announced last week alongside our first look at the movie’s DVD release. We now know the movie will be getting a particularly clean limited-edition 4K steelbook in addition to a standard DVD and Blu-ray. The physical release will also include a new collected set of all five Toy Story movies. While I’ve yet to find any preorder listings online, all of those editions have a release date of September 22.

Pixar’s next project will be a fully original movie. Gatto, which is slated to be released in theaters next February, will follow a musical black cat on the streets of Venice. The film has the same director as 2021’s Luca, and looks to have a particularly distinct art style. Disney also just hosted its annual D23 showcase, offering tons of new info about all of its studios’ next moves. On the Pixar side, we got our first look at The Incredibles 3 and another original film, Ghost Market. Coco 2 also got an update that, for the most part, was a set-up for a fresh look at Kingdom Hearts 4.When Will Toy Story 5 Come to Disney+?It should come as no surprise that Toy Story 5 will eventually join the rest of the Pixar slate on Disney+. Pixar typically follows a pretty strict timeline for getting their releases onto the streaming service, with recent movies like Hoppers and Inside Out 2 finding their way onto Disney+ four months after their initial release in theaters. I don’t think we’ll see any shift from that strategy with Toy Story 5, which should be available to Disney+ subscribers by the end of September.
