Fortnite’s new season, Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, has a big central theme – the world of video games.

Though Epic’s long-running battle royale has crossed streams before – characters from Resident Evil, Street Fighter, The Witcher, Halo and more have showed up over the years – it’s the first time an entire season will be focused on gaming collaborations.

For example, the map will be fleshed out with Tetris Blocks, Sonic’s Green Hill Zone and Pac Man Ghost Gang clouds, while the likes of Mega Man and Persona 5’s Joker will make an appearance as playable skins.

This guide explains when Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override will go live, and some ideas of what to expect.

Fortnite New Season Start Time: When Does Chapter 7: Season 4 Override Release?

Fortnite’s Override season will release on Thursday, 20th August, and will go live sometime in the morning UK time at around the following times:

BST (UK)
9am-11am
CEST (Western Europe)
10am-12pm
EDT (Eastern Americas)
4am-6am
PDT (Western Americas)
1am-3am

Note these windows are estimates based on when previous seasons have gone live, and may differ come Thursday: there have been cases where the new season has launched very early in the morning, and others where it doesn’t quite show up until closer to midday for those in the UK. Either way – barring any technical issues on Epic’s end, expect it sometime in the morning.

What To Expect From The Fortnite’s Override Season

The best overview is to watch Override’s full announcement trailer, embedded above – showing off cameos, map changes and mechanics, including Sonic’s spin dash and loop-de-loops (!).

Next, there’s this cameo-packed teaser image. As mentioned in the intro, some of these characters have appeared in Fortnite previously, but the likes of Kingdom Hearts’s Sora, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and the various cast of Sonic characters are all new:

However, if you’re hoping these new additions will be in the season’s Battle Pass, you’re out of luck. Another trailer shows it’ll be Sonic and an assortment of original Fortnite creations, suggesting everything else in the above image must be purchased separately:

Here’s a still of the Battle Pass line-up for a closer look (ignore the three characters in the top row):

Finally, if you want some in-game justification of how we got here, the Unstable live event at the weekend saw the in-game universe ‘reboot’, dropping a cartridge onto the map, which you can currently visit while Chapter 3 is still active:
