Russell Westbrook‘s career is pointing in a new direction.
The NBA point guard—who made his name balling for the Oklahoma City Thunder across 11 seasons—announced he’s retiring from the league after 18 years, with the help of friend Michael B. Jordan.
“Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end,” Westbrook captioned the Aug. 12 video narrated by the Sinners actor that revisited his storied career. “You had to be there. And now it’s over.”
And the announcement was an affair as flashy as Westbrook’s fashion sense, visualizing the athlete’s greatest career achievements in “The Museum of Unspoken Answers.” Alongside earning a 2017 MVP title and winning a 2012 Olympic Medal in London, Westbrook notably possesses the record for scoring the most triple-doubles in NBA history.
And the 37-year-old—first drafted by the Seattle Sonics before they relocated to Oklahoma—nodded to what he feels is the most important part of his legacy by the end of the artsy short film directed by Sean Kelly.
“The greatest thing he left behind couldn’t fit inside a museum,” the video’s subtitles stated, referring to Westbrook’s one-of-a-kind legacy despite never earning a championship ring. “It never had to be said.”
The Sacramento Kings player echoed his individualist mindset with his T-shirt, which read, “Don’t rock with what they say.”

As for what could be next for the NBA all-star? Jordan hinted Westbrook already has next steps in place, narrating, “This swing isn’t finished, and neither is he.”
The baller previously executive produced documentaries including Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre and Brothers On Ice, as well as creating the streetwear brand Honor the Gift.
