Now that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is out on the Switch 2, you might be wondering just how it compares to another handheld competitor: the Steam Deck.
Our lovely video producer Alex has provided some footage – including handheld – to demonstrate how the two hold up side-by-side. In short, the Switch 2 version outshines the Steam Deck in almost every conceivable way.
As Alex states, the Steam Deck version isn’t bad, but when you look at the two together, the Switch 2 boasts higher resolution, better textures, more consistent lighting effects, and more. Crucially, the frame rate is also much more stable on Switch 2. We’ve noted in our review already that it can drop below the 30fps target, but it’s generally a lot more impressive than the Steam Deck.

Now, we said the Switch 2 is better in almost every way, because the Steam Deck actually comes out on top with load times. Textures take slightly longer to load on the Switch 2, but this is undoubtedly a fairly minor issue.
Check out our full review on Oblivion to find out if it’s worth your time and money. It probably is, but just be mindful that it comes with all of the performance quirks you might expect from a Bethesda title.
