Watch: Bachelorette’s Joe Amabile Diagnosed With “Blueberry-Sized Lesion” in His Brain
Joe Amabile’s new journey is all about healing.
Less than a month after the Bachelor Nation alum announced he’d been diagnosed with a brain lesion the size of a blueberry, he announced he’d undergone surgery to have it removed.
And best of all, as he announced in his Aug. 7 Instagram post, “They got it all!”
Accompanying the encouraging caption was a photo carousel showing the 40-year-old smiling in his hospital bed with a bandage around his head, another photo of Amabile throwing up a piece sign in his room, one featuring his wife of four years Serena Pitt holding his hand as well as a snap of celebratory sweet treats.
Amabile’s exciting update was soon filled with well wishes from fellow Bachelor Nation alums.
Among them was Kaitlyn Bristowe writing, “HELLL YES THEY DID WHY AM I CRYING,” while Ashley Iaconetti added, “Yayyyy!!! Praise! So so happy to see this update!!”
A few days following the news, Pitt took a moment to reflect on the couple’s time in the hospital while Amabile was recovering from his surgery.
“Incredibly grateful to the team at NYU Langone Health,” she captioned the Aug. 10 post, “for their endless patience, care, compassion, and kindness these past few days.”

As for her husband, she confirmed Amabile was home recovering, emphasizing, “We’re so grateful to have been in such good hands.”
The 28-year-old also included a look at what she described as “a few peaceful moments from the hospital,” which featured a salmon dinner brought for Amabile, the bed she made extra cozy for herself with a faux fur blanket from home, a sunrise behind the New York City skyline and an in-bed viewing of the 2009 movie It’s Complicated.
When Amabile first shared that doctors had discovered the blueberry-sized legion in his brain on July 13, he emphasized that it appeared to be “really early stages” and that doctors had expressed hope they’d be able to remove it all—a hunch that proved true.

Noting that the tumor would be tested upon its removal to see whether it was benign or malignant, Amabile added, “It’s been a wild couple weeks, definitely wasn’t expecting this. It’s one of those things where, ‘Oh, something like this never happened to me,’ and here I am.”
Thankfully, he’s had Pitt’s support throughout it all.
As she commented at the time, “You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together. I love you.”
