William H. Macy & Stephen Dorff in Crime Thriller ‘The Deputy’ Trailer​

“Do your job. Because that’s all you can do right now…” Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for a small town crime thriller titled The Deputy, arriving to watch in September. Always good to see William H. Macy in something! He was terrific in last year’s Train Dreams, too. A young sheriff’s deputy finds himself in the crosshairs of dangerous criminals when the dead body he is assigned to keep an eye on mysteriously disappears from a crime scene. Toby must unravel the town’s deep corruption before his career — and his life — end up as dead as the missing victim. This almost plays like a dark comedy mixed with a rural thriller, with all the sarcasm in it. Filmed on location in Mississippi, of course. The Deputy stars Duke Nicholson, Stephen Dorff, Tiffany Haddish, with Billie Lourd, Colleen Camp, Julia Fox, Daniel Diemer, and the William H. Macy as Sheriff Krueger. The impressive cast in this makes it worth a watch. Have a look.

In the dead of night, part-time Deputy Toby Sawyer (Duke Nicholson), is jolted awake by Chief Krueger (William H. Macy) to guard a dead body until the coroner arrives. An hour later, the corpse mysteriously vanishes. Though an unlikely hero, Toby’s frantic search to find the body exposes decades of wrongdoing, a truck full of immigrants, a freezer stuffed with cash, vengeful siblings, and several cops who have turned a blind eye, including Deputy Billy Banks (Stephen Dorff) who pressures Toby to ignore his findings. Only Deputy Amanda Jackson (Tiffany Haddish) appears trustworthy. Desperate to keep his job and provide for his family, Toby must unravel the town’s deep corruption before his career, and his life, end up as dead as the missing victim. The Deputy is directed by American filmmaker Matt Sukkar, making his feature directorial debut after a few shorts & music videos previously. The screenplay is written by Carlo Bernard. Based on the novel by Victor Gischler. Produced by Hicham Benkirane, Andrew Stevens, Matt Sukkar. Well Go USA debuts Sukkar’s The Deputy film in select US theaters + on VOD starting September 25th, 2026.
