George Clooney and Amal Clooney are facing an unimaginable situation.

Amid devastating wildfires spreading across Europe, the couple and their 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella have evacuated their family home located in Brignoles, a town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France.

“At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” George shared in a letter addressed to Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond, which his rep confirmed to People. “As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasize 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole.”

The blaze—which has burned an area four times the size of Paris—has forced 220,000 people to leave their homes, per the Associated Press, including the Clooneys and their neighbors.

The Oscar winner added, “We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

Indeed, the Clooneys have set up roots in the French countryside. As George told Esquire last year, “We live on a farm in France.”

Though the 65-year-old “hated” being on the farm while growing up in Kentucky, he now sees the benefits of rural living as a dad to two kids.

“They have a much better life,” George raved. “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France—they kind of don’t give a s–t about fame.”

Instead of “walking around worried about paparazzi,” the ER alum said his children are more affable within their family and community.

“They’re not on their iPads, you know?” he explained. “They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in.”

But that’s not to say George and Amal, 48, have ditched the city life completely. While the couple also have homes in England, Italy and near George’s family in Kentucky, they additionally spent some time last year in New York City during George’s stint in the Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck.

“Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life,” the Ocean’s Eleven actor told the New York Times in a February 2025 interview. “Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance of a normal life.”
