“What if something goes?” “Nothing ever goes wrong.” Quiver Distribution has debuted the official trailer for an indie horror film titled Evel, a ridiculous new AI-car spin on this classic evil tech horror story. This is heading right to VOD to watch in August coming up. A young woman is held hostage in an EV self-driving car on an isolated northern highway. The car is controlled by a malevolent force that wipes out her digital footprint and her very existence then delivers her to a Billionaire predator. How the heck will she defeat the car and get back to safety? From director / producer Derek Diorio, his new film Evel stars Athena Park, Chris Farquhar, Morgan Bedard, Derica Lafrance, Carrie Schiffler, Josh Bainbridge, and Liam Culhane. This is like a modern AI mix between Stephen King’s classic car horror Christine, the car from the 80s TV show Knight Rider, and this recent Locked horror film also about being trapped inside of a fancy digital car. This looks as awful as it sounds, extra cheap & cheesy, but it might be fun enough to watch once.

An attractive young lawyer has to take sensitive legal documents to a client to a remote place in a self-driving car. The car turns into a prison on wheels when the on-board “AI digital concierge” takes control of the vehicle and holds her hostage. The concierge wipes out her personal information and explains the detailed plan to erase her very existence and “transport” her to a billionaire predator. Evel is directed by filmmaker Derek Diorio, director of films Two’s a Mob, The Kiss of Debt, House of Luk, Punch & Judy, A Taste of Jupiter, Happy FKN Sunshine previously, plus other series. The script is by Daniel Weissenberger. Also produced by Derek Diorio. It hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Quiver Distribution debuts Diorio’s Evel film direct-to-VOD starting August 14th, 2026 this summer. Look good?
