Montel Williams is pulling the curtain back on a past romance.

More than two decades after the former talk show host briefly dated former Vice President Kamala Harris while she was working as an attorney in San Francisco, he reflected on the renewed spotlight on their relationship after old photos resurfaced.

“I’m one of those guys that I don’t kiss and tell,” Williams shared on the July 6 episode of the On Par with Maury Povichpodcast. “Who she dated 30, 40 years ago doesn’t matter. It was crazy. It was absolutely insane.”

“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness,'” he continued. “But you know, you can’t erase your past. You embrace your past.”

But the 70-year-old has nothing but love for his ex, whom he dated for a few months in 2001.

“I think that there was a lot of misconception about who she was, who she is,” he explained. “One of the smartest people I think I’ve ever met in my life. I give her credit for that.”

In fact, he believes Harris, 61, would have soared to new heights if she had won the 2024 presidential race—which she joined 107 days before election day when former President Joe Biden dropped out—against Donald Trump.

“Could she have done a good job? Without a doubt,” he emphasized. “But I think circumstances and timing were all bad.”

Although Harris and Williams’ relationship took center stage when photos from their red carpet debut at the Erase Multiple Sclerosis gala in May 2001 made the rounds amid her presidential bid in 2024, he hasn’t thought much about his past loves.

“I’m married and I love my wife,” Williams—who tied the knot with Tara Fowler in 2007—told Sean Hannity on his Sean podcast in May 2025. “I don’t reminisce about anybody that came before her. Honestly, she has been my savior.”

“So, to have to stop and make my brain go back and think about that relationship, I almost feel like I’m cheating,” he admitted. “So, let’s leave it in the past.”
