I was very lucky to grow up with the first two Toy Story movies. Other than the occasional Sid-induced nightmare, I absolutely loved them – and one Space Ranger in particular.
Despite a rather lengthy obsession with Buzz Lightyear, I never actually owned a proper action figure version of him. The tech just wasn’t there, and definitely not at a price my parents would have been willing to pay.
Now it’s 2026, Toy Story 5 is in theaters, and we finally have a reasonably-priced Buzz Lightyear action figure that looks like the real thing. It’s also Prime Day, so if you’re a Prime Member (you can sign up for a 30-day free trial here), you can get the figure for 15% off.

Official Buzz Lightyear Interactive Talking Action Figure
The 12-inch Buzz Lightyear figure is part of an official line of talking action figures produced by Disney. Eight toys from the full line are available on Amazon, including Woody, Jessie, and Zurg, but Buzz is the only one that currently has a discount.
This isn’t exactly a new version of Buzz Lightyear, but it’s definitely better than anything available when I was a kid. Toys and figures based on Toy Story unsurprisingly go all the way back to the first movie, but Disney started producing their own line of toys, and specifically this version of Buzz Lightyear, to coincide with the release of the beloved Toy Story 3. This model has gotten smaller updates throughout the years, including the addition of a ‘toy detector’ mode that allows it to ‘respond to’ other figures.
Toy Story 5 Images
What exactly does Buzz respond with? Well, a solid slate of phrases from across the Toy Story franchise, including classics like “To infinity, and beyond!” and “Halt, who goes there!?”. These phrases can be prompted with a series of buttons, which are also used to control a small laser, his wing release, and a special ‘Karate Chop’ move.
Now, as far as the discount of it all goes, $6 off isn’t a whole lot, but it is the lowest price we’ve seen on the toy since Black Friday. That discount and the Toy Story 5 hype has been enough to propel the figure to the #1 spot on Amazon’s current list of ‘Best-Selling Toys and Games,’ beating out real classics like ‘a deck of cards’ and ‘Play-Doh.’ The Toy Story fever is back, and it seems over 25 years later, fans can still recognize who the real main character is.
