Why would a major wrestling promotion reveal a tournament bracket without deciding who will win it? Let’s find out in today’s rumors!
This one may sound crazy, but a source close to WWE Creative told WrestleVotes Radio that the winner of the King of the Ring tournament was not “firmly decided” when the bracket was revealed. The source says at least three different stars were internally pitched as the tournament winner, and these wrestlers were strategically placed in the bracket with that option in mind.
While this may seem like a sign of turmoil in WWE Creative, the more optimistic guess is that WWE did this as a reaction to so many recent plans being changed due to injury. Rather than put all their eggs in one basket for the King of the Ring winner, perhaps WWE wants to maintain some storytelling flexibility just in case another emergency strikes.
WrestleVotes speculates it’s also possible that WWE and Brock Lesnar have yet to agree on when his trilogy with Oba Femi will finish, which would complicate Oba’s booking in this tournament until that issue is resolved.
Votes wasn’t told the names of the specific stars who were pitched as King of the Ring winners, but it’s hard to imagine that group doesn’t include Femi, Seth Rollins, and Bron Breakker at the very least, and maybe even LA Knight or Jey Uso.
