The main event of June 3’s Dynamite was also the continuation of one of AEW’s biggest stories: Will Ospreay’s quest to come back from a serious neck injury, win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament to earn a main event spot in the World title match at All In, then go to win the belt in front of tens of thousands of his fellow Brits on August 30 in London’s Wembley Stadium.
A big beat in that story was Ospreay’s match with Mark Davis a couple months ago. Davis was a member of Will’s United Empire faction in New Japan, but has turned heel in AEW to join The Don Callis Family. Bruv’s been training with Jon Moxley and his Death Riders to overcome whatever’s held him back from reaching the top of mount All Elite, and we got a reminder of that ahead of his match with Davis on Dynamite tonight.
Pre-match focus from @JonMoxley and the Death Riders!
All eyes are on @WillOspreay as he enters his showdown against #AEW National Champion Mark Davis in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament!

With the outcome not of the main event not in much doubt, AEW overbooked the **** out of the match. That meant lots of ref bumps after Ospreay mounted his big comeback against his old mate, and started a cavalcade of run-ins from The Callis Family and Death Riders.
.@TheDonCallis Family was trying to take advantage of the referee being downed, but the Death Riders are out to even the odds!

That wasn’t enough to get either man down for three while a conscious referee was around. Davis’ longtime partner Kyle Fletcher arrived, which brought Fletcher’s other old partner, International champ Konosuke Takeshita to counter him.
Just as @KyleFletcherPro swooped in, Konosuke Takeshita took the opportunity to get his hands on his former friend!

From there, Bruv used some of what he’s been learning in Mox’s dojo, getting his beefy opponent to tap to arm submission.

And with that, Ospreay becomes the first person to officially add his name to the card for June 27’s Forbidden Door PPV. He’ll await the winner of Swerve Strickland and Brody King in the other semi-final, scheduled to take place next Wednesday on the Summer Blockbuster edition of Dynamite.
We like Will Ospreay’s chances regardless of his opponent at the event with New Japan, CMLL, and Stardom at the end of the month. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
