Top rumor of the day: Jacob Fatu situation
There were rumors floating around in the days leading up to Clash in Italy that Jacob Fatu had suffered an injury at a live event and it led to some belief that he may not be cleared for his match against Roman Reigns in what was scheduled to be the main event of the PLE in Turin. Fightful Select has since said this was very much the case, and alternative plans were in fact being discussed in the event they had to pivot at the last minute.
False Finish has since chimed in to say that one of the alternative plans was none other than Drew McIntyre, who hasn’t been on television for the better part of the past month after losing to Fatu at WrestleMania 42. He’s got history with The Bloodline and would have made sense as a plug in opponent.
Thankfully, he wasn’t needed in the end.
There’s no word at this time on who other possible replacements could have been.
Other rumors floating around
- According to Fightful Select, there were a number of wrestlers who had their creative direction changed in the weeks after WrestleMania 42.
- They also say the original Clash in Italy card looked a lot different than what we ultimately ended up getting.
- Per the Wrestling Observer, the June 26 episode of Friday Night SmackDown will be the last three-hour show “for the next several months.”
- Dave Meltzer notes in The Daily Update that WWE is “taking direct aim at CMLL” by announcing shows there in the week leading up to the CMLL anniversary show on Sept. 18. He also said he expects AEW talent will be on the CMLL shows.
- For what it’s worth, Evil Uno said on Bluesky that “we were told to put all AEWGames content on hold for the time being.”
